Windows Installer 8.3 Support Patchy and Anoying

Windows Installer insists on requiring me to enter 8.3 file information I am not generally interested in. I am happy to author an MSI which won't install on media without long filename support.

Worse than that when it installs long filenames this 8.3 information is ignored. Source of a few bugs also I think.

Microsoft awarded me an MVP (Most Valuable Professional award) in 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007 for the Windows SDK (Windows Installer) area.This external link was OK when tested at 23 Aug 2008Please email me any feedback, additional information or corrections.
