Email Attachments

  1. Please don't send large attachments to the MAKEMSI group, send these directly to me. If that fails upload to the the MAKEMSI groups "Files" area (and inform me of this in the email).

  2. Always send attachments zipped up with Infozip, WinZip etc. This ensures I get them intact and compressed.

  3. Please make sure you only send me files I need and rather than send the complete (and sometime huge) code that failed it is much better for you to spend some time eliminating steps and files that are not relevant to the reproduction of the problem.

  4. As much as possible please make sure any scripts/files are standalone, I prefer to be able to unzip the files and immediately try building. This will improve the turn around time as it is much less work for me.

  5. I will frequently request the complete contents to the "out" tree, please ensure its clean before your build so it only contains relevant files.

  6. To ensure that the attachment makes it through any spam or virus filters (I can think of 3 different sets it has to get though now...), I highly recommend that you send attachments using this (well tested) approach:

    1. Create a zip file containing the contents you wish to send.

    2. Zip up the zip you created above (so you have a zip file inside a zip file).

    3. Put a password (to encrypt) on the zipped up zip. Be sure to tell me what the password is ("makemsi" recommended)!

This step ensures that it is not possible for automated processes (which don't know the password) from looking inside the zip (as both the contents and "contents listing" becomes hidden).
