The "Binary" Command

This command adds a file to an MSI (typically to the "Binary" table).

You might also be interested in the tip "Extract Binary at Install Time".

The macro takes these parameters:

• Source File Name (positional)
  This is the source binary which is read to insert the binary data. If required PPWIZARD will search for the file in its standard way.

• Key (optional)
  This is the Key which is used else where to refer to this binary information. If not supplied then the short filename is extracted and used as the key. The case of the key will exactly match that of the file as supplied and of course you can only do this if the filename doesn't contain characters that are not valid in a Windows Installer "Identifier".

  Due to OLE storage restritions this key is restricted to 55 characters..

• Table (optional)
  This determines which MSI table the binary will be added to (the default is the "Binary" table). Other possibilities are the "_Storages" and "_Streams" tables.

• Doco (optional)
  Should binary information is placed into the generated HTML report (Y/N)?

  The default for this parameter can be set via the DEFAULT_BINARY_DOCO macro. The initial value for this is "Y".

• Comment (optional)
  This is a comment for the HTML doco. It overrides any other that may have been set by any enclosing "FileComment" block.

EXAMPLE

<$Binary "c:\dbareis\tools\where.exe">  ;;"where.exe" will be the key
